I am not what you’d call a traditional photographer. My photographic strengths don’t lie in technical mastery. Instead, they’re found in how I see; my ability to see the extraordinary in the ordinary and the heart in what appears heartless. Who knew that playing on 18-wheelers and bulldozers as a kid would later reveal themselves as my first muses. For a shy, introverted child, those big machines were trusted playmates and friends that somehow imprinted parts of themselves in my psyche. Today, I’ve added train cars, dumpsters and junk yards to my subjects - nothing is off the table. I have expanded to mixed-media that most often begins with my images. I then add words, symbolic objects or even other mediums, like painting, stitching, etc. This allows me to take the work to a deeper more intimate level, driven by my own emotions and life concerns. I can’t imagine not being an artist, it feeds every part of me. I’m grateful I get to bring it into the world.
