I have been a watercolor artist all my life because I love working with light. When I met a master glass artist at a local studio tour 13 years ago, I was amazed by her work, and 2 weeks after that, I had bought my first kiln and started a love affair with the glass medium. Although I use a kiln, I do not use the term "fused glass" for my work because that has become descriptive of a certain style of patterned pieces. My work is much more narrative and illustrated. I love to push the medium to create unusual results. I draw and fire lines into the glass with powdered copper mixed into a "paint". I silkscreen images onto the glass using powdered glass as the "ink". I create sheets of "paper" made of powdered glass and use them in framed collages. And most recently, I have been making shaded pencil drawings on fired glass. If anyone talks about what can't be done, I will be sure to try to do it.
