Gretchen Grawunder is a ceramic artist whose work explores pattern and everyday use. Her work features nerikomi, the Japanese technique of creating designs through layers of colored clay. Her pieces are designed to bring beauty into daily life.
Based in Santa Fe, Gretchen spends her winters in Borrego Springs, California, where she works at a community studio. She shares her knowledge of ceramics by teaching pottery classes to adults. At the heart of Gretchen's work is a belief that functional objects can carry meaning beyond their practical purpose. "I want to make art that hopefully, transcends form or purpose"
